New
Committee
Forming:
Arts in
A.R.T.S.
Creativity,
Recovery,
and
Community
We are
excited
to
announce
the
formation
of a new
committee:
Arts in
A.R.T.S.
— a
fellowship-driven
initiative
dedicated
to
celebrating
and
supporting
creativity
as a
vital
part of
recovery.
Our
goals:
•
Provide
a
welcoming
space
for
members
to share
their
creative
work.
•
Develop
a
framework
for
including
creative
expressions
within
the
newsletter.
•
Encourage
transparent,
healthy
dialogue
rooted
in
mutual
respect
and
service.
•
Uphold
our
primary
purpose
by
keeping
creativity
connected
to
experience,
strength, and
hope.
Everyone
is
welcome
to
participate
— no
special
experience
required!

you’re

shape
this
project,

A.R.T.S.
is not
free!!!
In
A.R.T.S.
Anonymous
we pay
our own
way.
There
are no
dues or
fees,
and we
rely on
the
generosity
of
the members.
We
invite
all
members
to
consider
the
benefits
they
have
received
from the
program
and
support
the
fellowship
with
their
time
(service)
and
money.
All of
those in
World
Service
and the
Board of
Trustees
service
positions
aspire
to
follow
the 12
Traditions
for the
guidance
of their
decisions.
And
within
that
framework
we are
launching
a
fundraising
campaign.
While
all the
Traditions
are
important,
we want
to
highlight
two of
them:
Tradition
One: Our
common
welfare
should
come
first;
personal
recovery
depends
upon
A.R.T.S.
unity.
The
principle
of Unity
is the
foundation
of our
fellowship.
Without
it, we
are just
a
collection
of
struggling
artists
going
our
separate
ways
with our
suffering;
lonely,
blocked
and
struggling
with the
difficulties
inherent
in being
an
artist.
We
encourage
all
A.R.T.S.
members
to
consider
the
spiritual
implications
of the
commitment
to a
spiritual
program.
Once the
group
conscience
has been
decided,
Unity
challenges
every
member,
not only
to
accept
it, but
to fully
embrace
the
unifying
principle
of a
decision.
We
remember
that our
primary
purpose
is to
carry
the
message
of recovery
and
the benefits
to
newcomers
and
old-timers
alike.
Unity is
the bond
that
keeps us
helping
each
other to
recover.
Tradition
Seven:
Every
A.R.T.S.
group
ought to
be fully
self-supporting,
declining
outside
contributions.
It has
long
been the
case
that 12
Step
Programs
do not
accept
donations
from
outside
the
fellowship.
If
members
care
about
the
existence
of
A.R.T.S.
Anonymous,
they can
ensure
its
survival
by
supporting
it
monetarily.
The
fellowship
has been
in the
financial
doldrums
for the
last six
months,
losing
an
average
of
$250.64
per
month.
We have
some
urgent
needs:
Meetings
of the
World
Service
Conference
(WSC)
are
where
decisions
that
affect
A.R.T.S.
as a
whole
are
made.
Many
members
are
familiar
with the
annual
meeting
of the
Conference,
held
over
several
days,
usually
in
November
or
January.
From
time to
time, a
special
session
is
called
to
handle
necessary
business.
On
Saturday,
August 2
there
will be
a
special
meeting
of the
WSC
to elect
a
Conference
Chair
(we have
a
candidate!),
and fill
other
positions
needed
to lead
and
organize
the
annual
meeting.
Please
attend
if you
are
interested
in
helping
or want
to find
out
more.
Meeting
Delegates
are
needed
to vote
to elect
members
for
Conference
positions.
Keeping
A.R.T.S.
Transparent
-
the
Meeting
Delegate/G.S.R.
Role
By
Donna
D.
I’ve
been
asked
to
describe
the
job
of
the
Delegates
at
the
A.R.T.S.
World
Service
Conference.
My
experience
has
been
to
suit
up
and
show
up,
listen
to
what’s
going
on
and
vote
on
the
issues
after
hearing
what
they
are
and
possibly
helping
to
craft
the
language
of
motions
into
something
that
everyone
can
agree
to.
These
are
things
that
help
A.R.T.S.
carry
its
message
and
grow.
About
four
years
ago,
A.R.T.S.
Anonymous
had
a
world
meeting
for
everybody
to
bring
up
their
concerns.
The
two
main
ones
were
for
A.R.T.S.
to
be
more
transparent,
and
to
get
input
from
the
fellowship
when
making
decisions.
While
it
certainly
is
easier
to
have
one
person
make
all
the
decisions
for
any
project
or
program,
many
in
A.R.T.S.
are
striving
very
hard
to
honor
the
principle
of
unity
and
get
input
from
every
interested
member
of
A.R.T.S.
Anonymous.
The
way
that
can
be
accomplished
is
for
every
meeting
to
send
Delegates/Alternates
(G.S.R.S.)
to
all
World
Service
Conferences.
This
is
not
an
easy
accomplishment.
Everyone
is
busy.
No
one
knows
exactly
what
to
do.
But,
for
the
last
three
years
some
A.R.T.S.
meetings
were
able
to
send
brave
souls
to
Conferences
and
because
of
that
A.R.T.S.
now
has
a
Conference
Charter,
Twelve
Concepts
of
Service,
more
Conference-approved
Literature,
an
agreed-on
set
of
Traits,
Talents
and
Tools,
and
progress
in
many
areas.
All
the
minutes
from
the
Conferences
are
available
on
the
A.R.T.S.
Anonymous
website;
more
transparency.
Financial
reports
from
A.R.T.S.
are
also
available
on
the
website.
And
here
is a
link
on
the
website
to
find
out
more
about
being
a
Delegate/Alternate
at
the
World
Service
Conference.
I am
really
grateful
for
the
ability
to
have
the
conference
available
to
all
meetings
through
Zoom.
I no
longer
have
to
fly
to
Ocean
Grove,
pay
for
a
hotel
for
the
three
days,
buy
restaurant
food
for
three
days,
arrange
for
dog
sitting.
Some
people
have
to
get
babysitters;
some
people
lose
work.
Now
all
I
have
to
do
is
turn
on
my
computer,
push
a
button
and
boom
I’m
there.
Did
I
mention
not
having
to
pack
clothes
and
make
arrangements
to
get
to
the
airport
and,
and,
and.
All
I
have
to
do
is
sit
in
front
of
the
computer
for
a
few
hours
at a
time
and
participate
in a
program
that
is
so
helpful
to
me.
Everyone
is
qualified
to
be a
Meeting
Delegate.
Trust
me
there.
A
Suggested
Group
Inventory
for A.R.T.S.
Anonymous
The
5th
tradition
says
that
“Each
group
has
but
one
primary
purpose
– to
carry
its
message
to
the
artist
who
still
suffers.”
Sharing
Experience,
Strength,
and
Hope
is
the
message
of
recovery,
as
is
sharing
what
our
life
was
like
before
A.R.T.S.,
and
what
it
is
like
now.
The
message
can
be
attractive
to
newcomers
and
welcoming
them
renews
the
purpose
of
the
meeting.
Many
groups
periodically
hold
a
“group
inventory
meeting”
to
evaluate
how
well
they
are
fulfilling
the
primary
purpose
of
carrying
the
message
to
the
artist
who
still
suffers.
Some
groups
take
inventory
to
assess
how
the
group
adheres
to
the
principles
of
each
Tradition.
Groups
interested
in
taking
regular
inventory
often
find
the
words
of
Step
Ten
helpful:
Continued
to
take
personal
inventory
and
when
we
were
wrong
promptly
admitted
it.
Alcoholics
Anonymous
created
the
“Group
Inventory.”
The
following
text
is
adapted
from
A.A.’s
Group
Inventory,
and
may
be
useful
in
arriving
at
an
informed
group
conscience.
Groups
might
want
to
add
questions
of
their
own.
In
closing,
I
would
like
to
say
that
no
matter
how
distanced
we
may
feel
from
our
creative
sources,
no
matter
how
long
it
has
been
since
we
were
in
touch
with
our
creative
spirit,
or
how
feeble
may
seem
our
creative
impulses,
they
are
reawakening
in
our
Higher
Power’s
time,
through
this
program
and
through
our
actions,
no
matter
how
small
or
how
simple,
a
day
at a
time.
I
may
not
be
able
to
see
my
own
growth,
or
even
to
see
my
creations
as
beautiful,
but
I am
able
to
see
yours
as
inspiring
and
enriching
my
emotional,
spiritual
and
physical
world.
We
are
not
recovering
merely
to
hide
our
light
under
a
bushel;
our
creative
gifts
are
a
gift.
To
celebrate
them,
we
humbly
apply
ourselves,
sometimes
to
the
work
of
art,
and
sometimes
to
play.
May
A.R.T.S.
Anonymous
teach
us
that
our
art,
celebrated,
will
benefit
and
feed
our
own
souls
first,
and
the
world’s
second,
for
the
world
hungers
as
much
for
this
beauty
as
for
food.
We
meet
here
together
to
feed
this
deeper
hunger.
