For
2023: Writings on the
Traditions
While the Twelve Steps of
A.R.T.S Anonymous guide us to
recover our inspiration and joy
in expressing our creativity,
the Twelve Traditions guide our
focus on our primary purpose in
A.R.T.S. Anonymous. What better
way to celebrate 2023 than with
a focus on the Tradition that
corresponds with each of the
twelve months. Below in this
November issue of the newsletter
is one member’s personal
response to Tradition 11.
December’s Newsletter welcomes
your response to
Tradition 12: Anonymity is the
spiritual foundation of all our
traditions, ever reminding us to
place principles before
personalities.
We suggest the following series
of questions when writing your
response.
-
What does Tradition 12 mean
to you?
-
How do you feel about
Tradition 12?
-
How may Tradition 12 help
your creative expression?
It will be wonderful to receive
your thoughts, feelings, and
application of Tradition 12.
Please send your response to the
editors at
newsletter@artsanonymous.org
for possible publication.

Tradition Eleven – A Personal
Response
Tradition 11: Our public
relations policy is based on
attraction rather than
promotion; we need always
maintain personal anonymity at
the level of press, radio and
films.

When I look at the sky,
I understand Tradition 11.
Each moment, the sky
presents itself to the world, to
me.
Unfolding in glorious
hues & bands, lights & shadows,
beauty & wonder
All under the loving
brush strokes of the Ultimate
Creator.
The sky doesn't tap us
on the shoulder, poke or prod us
repeatedly,
Shaking us from the
blissful kingdom it designed for
us.
It doesn't get annoyed
or call us over for attention.
It doesn't bemoan that
it looks different from all else
on the planet.
That it has no eyes,
arms, or feet.
It can still see us,
hold us, journey with us, love
us.

Celebrating the Gifts: A.R.T.S. 39th
Birthday
Below is a tiny bit of some of the
wonderful things we got to hear
earlier this month at the A.R.T.S.
Birthday Celebration. The gifts of
the program are available to all who
seek it. In time the hope is that
much of what we saw and heard will
become available on the website and
in other ways.
Kudos to Jay M. and Abigail B. for
organizing and hosting and bringing
the program to our members in a very
special way. Thank you.
“I was so excited all day for this.
All day and I made this sign. It
says: Happy Birthday A.R.T.S. All I
really want to say is I found out
who I am through A.R.T.S. That’s
it.”
“I came to A.R.T.S. through other
programs, and my body reacted. I
definitely listened to my body. My
head could not believe it. I still
don't believe it. It's now over a
year. I am now thinking there is
nothing wrong with me.”
“What I get is A.R.T.S. has my back.
I feel like people get me, and I get
myself more than ever before. And I
have a sponsor. He says he's with me
through thick and thin. We're going
to go through all the steps... It's
kind of scary to be coming out of
hibernation.”
“With A.R.T.S. I'm learning … that
how what we are doing has so much
value. I love how all of you are so
very curious and interested in what
I create, and you want to hear about
it, you want to know, and you want
to see. And that's been the most
healing, to be with all of you, and
with this program, and so I am
grateful, Abby, that you found the
wisdom and the insight to bring the
most unique 12-Step problem of them
all to life. So, thank you.”
A heartfelt welcome to the many more
members who will be attending in
November 2024 for the 40th Birthday
of A.R.T.S. Anonymous as it grows
and thrives. |

Creating A.R.T.S. Literature
Tradition 5: Each group has but
one primary purpose – to carry
its message to the artist who
still suffers
In a 1996 A.R.T.S. Anonymous
pamphlet titled,
Creating A.R.T.S. Literature,
appears the following:
“... if we want to have program
literature available which
reflects the primary purpose of
A.R.T.S. Anonymous (to express
our creative gifts and help
others achieve artistic
freedom), we will have to write
the literature ourselves...
“Traditionally, Twelve Step
literature does not reflect what
members “wish” would happen in
their lives, the literature
describes what actually happened
during the process of
recovering. It describes the
significance and nature of
events after they have occurred.
It sets down the experience of
members who had a spiritual
awakening as a result of working
the Twelve Steps. It describes
the path they took: They
admitted powerlessness, came to
believe, turned it over, made
and shared inventories, became
ready and humbly asked, made
amends and continued the process
through self-examination and
conscious contact, practicing
these principles in all their
affairs.
“It is not necessary to wait
until we have worked all the
Twelve Steps to write down our
experience with any of them...
“...The time has come for us to
place the message and our unique
experience as recovering artists
before the world. To save
ourselves, we must carry the
message to others. What better
way to “pass it on” than to hear
from those who have learned to
live artfully by working the
A.R.T.S. Twelve Step program?
“Are we going to show the
suffering artist precisely how
we have realized our creative
potential?
“Write it down!... Send your
written experience, strength and
hope to:”
