Thank you to the Meeting Delegates who attended the Board of Trustees Meeting on September 13

Two Meeting Delegates, the Conference Chair, and the Conference Vice-Chair joined the Board of Trustees on Saturday September 13 for the Board meeting. A lively discussion ensued on a range of topics. Questions and concerns were brought about:

  • The necessity of supporting the group conscience for the principle of unity

  • The use of non-Conference-approved Literature in meetings

  • An update on the status of Literature in development

  • How Board members attend the A.R.T.S. meetings as members of A.R.T.S.

  • Whether the Board has a role in the affairs of an individual meeting

  • How the Conference can add or remove Trustees from the Board

  • The purpose of the Non-Disclosure Agreement the Board uses

  • The need for a qualified Treasurer to serve on the Board of Trustees

The low attendance of the Meeting of Delegates left the Board with the thought that perhaps it’s doing pretty well? There was a request that this kind of forum be held more often.

Writing your Story Workshop - September 27, 2025

A Members Stories Writing Workshop is being offered as a service to the members. Recovering artists often find writing their personal A.R.T.S. recovery story to be healing and affirming. Guidelines for how to write an A.R.T.S. recovery story will be offered at this workshop.

One of the A.R.T.S. Tools suggests: We attend meetings to learn how the program works. We share our experience, strength and hope with each other, as well as our art and/or creative process. Writing guidelines for this workshop include sharing what your creative life was like before you found A.R.T.S.; what life was like as you participated with A.R.T.S.; and what your creative life is like today.

Another A.R.T.S. Tool: COMMUNICATING: We address our feelings of isolation by reaching out to other A.R.T.S. members and sharing between meetings. Communicating with one another helps both artists.

This workshop is scheduled for: Saturday, September 27th. It will begin at 9:00 am PT/ Noon pm ET/ 6:00 pm CET/ 7:00 pm MSK. The workshop will last about 2 hours. This allows plenty of time for writing and for members to share what they wrote with the other members of the group.

The Member Stories Literature Sub-Committee invites A.R.T.S. members to submit personal recovery stories for a new A.R.T.S. Anonymous book. If you wish for your story to be part of a book, A.R.T.S. Anonymous needs your permission to include it. The submission process will also be addressed during the workshop.

A great way to practice the 7th Tradition is by clicking the link to obtain a ticket to the event. Details and Registration – September 27 Writing your A.R.T.S. Story Workshop. Once there, you can make a suggested donation of $3.00. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. If you need direct access, or have questions, please contact:memberstories@artsanonymous.org

Why I Serve on the Board of Trustees
By Dasha B.

I have always wanted to rule the world and people’s minds. In Twelve-Step programs, I am able to do this using the tool of Service. At A.R.T.S. Anonymous I could fully realize my ambitions as Lord of the World (this is a joke!).

Seriously speaking, when I came to Twelve-Step programs, I realized that it helps me like nothing else, and that service gives a deeper connection with the program and often the most relevant information. I have served different positions in six different programs - starting with the cleaner on the group level, and then to Intergroup Chair and Conference delegate. My favorite service positions are as group facilitator and program chair, translating program literature, and sponsoring newcomers individually and in a group format. I have opened several new groups, including the first A.R.T.S. group in my own country, and I like to watch how people receive help and recover through texting and sharing.

Serving on the A.R.T.S. Board is my first position at this level of the inverted pyramid of service. I am glad that my knowledges and skills, accumulated over nine years in different Twelve-Step programs, are useful and can help others, that my voice and opinions are important, and that I can make a valuable (I hope) contribution at the level of the whole community. While it is basically a technical routine, it is very interesting for me, if not so interesting for beginners and people at the early stages of recovery. I like to be the first to know the news of the fellowship, and to maintain communication with the worldwide A.R.T.S. fellowship beyond the limits of my country and language. Also, this ministry helps to develop humility. It is important for us to maintain unity, so that we can continue to bear responsibility for the normal maintenance of the entire fellowship.

A.R.T.S. is a small community, and there is no fight for vacancies. I invite everyone who feels that A.R.T.S. has given them a lot and continues to give, feels stability in their recovery, has experience serving at the group or committee level in any community, and feels ready to contribute to A.R.T.S. at the organizational level, to try their hand on the Board of Trustees. (I was scared at the beginning too, and besides, I hate meetings with formal routines. But others helped me and brought me up to speed, and when I'm bored at Board meetings, I draw portraits of people at the Zoom meeting or doodle.)

Volunteers Needed to Organize and Lead:
Celebrating Recovery in A.R.T.S. on November 1

Last March an A.R.T.S. Magic Open House was held to talk over ideas for the future of A.R.T.S. and what the members would like to see.  The desire for an event that brings together the global fellowship for celebration, sharing creativity, and workshops was expressed several times. Well, here is that opporunity! A.R.T.S. celebrates 41 years in early November. Why not have a party?

Ideas include: an online auction of member art and services, meetings on the Tools, or Literature, or the Traditions and Concepts of Service, ARTshares, workshops on poetry, writing, drawing, etc. Creating a Tools game for A.R.T.S., etc. Meetings and members are invited to hold events throughout the 17-hour event. What will you contribute in service to this FUNdraiser?

Email officemanager@artsanonymous.org to volunteer.

Announcing the 2026 World Service Conference on January 10,11,17 (and tentatively the 18th), 2026

The Conference Service and Support Committee is pleased to announce that the dates of the next World Service Conference (WSC) have been set for January 10, 11, 17 and the 18 (if needed). The WSC is where decisions are made on behalf of the Fellowship as a whole. Meetings elect Delegates – and Alternate Delegates - to attend, have their voices heard, and vote the group conscience. Save the dates! Times will be determined later in September.

If your meeting has something they would like to have considered by the WSC, talk it over. The form to submit motions and Topics of Discussion is here.

Would you like to help prepare for the World Service Conference? Your skills and talents and willingness to serve are welcomed by the Conference Service and Support Committee. Please email conference@artsanonymous.org for questions or to check out the Committee meetings.

Artists Recovering Through the Twelve Steps” is now trademarked!

The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that the name, “Artists Recovering Through the Twelve Steps” now officially belongs to A.R.T.S. Anonymous. Trademark protection prevents others from appropriating or misusing the A.R.T.S. name. This protection supports the principles of singleness of purpose and non-affiliation with outside entities or enterprises. The trademark “A.R.T.S. Anonymous” is still pending final approval by the U.S Trademark Office, but should be coming through any day now.

A.R.T.S. Closing Prayer

In closing, I would like to say that no matter how distanced we may feel from our creative sources, no matter how long it has been since we were in touch with our creative spirit, or how feeble may seem our creative impulses, they are reawakening in our Higher Power’s time, through this program and through our actions, no matter how small or how simple, a day at a time. I may not be able to see my own growth, or even to see my creations as beautiful, but I am able to see yours as inspiring and enriching my emotional, spiritual and physical world. We are not recovering merely to hide our light under a bushel; our creative gifts are a gift. To celebrate them, we humbly apply ourselves, sometimes to the work of art, and sometimes to play. May A.R.T.S. Anonymous teach us that our art, celebrated, will benefit and feed our own souls first, and the world’s second, for the world hungers as much for this beauty as for food. We meet here together to feed this deeper hunger.
